Mission Statement Affirming the inherent worth and unique journeys of those nearing death and those who care for them, we offer spiritually-grounded, compassionate end-of-life care to the under-served people of Philadelphia. Vision The vision of the Friends Hospice Project is for the entire Philadelphia community, regardless of economic means, disabilities, religion, race, language and culture, or other worldly conditions, to know of, and have access to, compassionate end-of-life care, either in their own homes or in a residence that is as safe and comfortable as possible. A well-trained staff will provide the highest quality physical, emotional, and spiritual care while respecting the dignity, worth, and right to self-determination of each individual. Through Quaker testimonies and processes, the staff will create an environment in which participants, their families and friends, and the staff and care-givers themselves will feel welcomed, safe, and enriched as they share the joy and sorrow that comes at the end of life. Values In carrying our ministry forward, Friends Hospice Project of Philadelphia, values: · The humanity in all of us, the direct relationship to God we share and the people we are as a result of these relationships · The Quaker testimonies of Equality, Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community and Stewardship · The understanding of community that acknowledges that we (staff, participants and families) are interdependent and that we have a special relationship to those that are overlooked by our society. · An openness and listening to the continuing revelation of our lives, work and experiences · The experience of diversity; recognizing that each person is a unique expression of the Divine essence. We welcome all expressions of the Inward Light regardless of belief systems. · A joyful, homey and aesthetic environment that nurtures the physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort and safety of each member of the hospice community · The role of music, art and beauty in our lives · The responsible use of resources available to us, whether those resources be the natural environment or our time, talents and money · Spirit-infused, high-level competence in clinical and management activities · A commitment to life-long learning and training for all members of the hospice community · the Modeling of our beliefs so that our actions speak louder than our words |
